Community Training Information - Finglas Campus Jamestown Road

City of Dublin FET College Nortwest Campus, formerly know as Finglas Training Centre, partners with community groups and other agencies, to provide training for early school leavers and those deemed to be disadvantaged either economically, socially, geographically or educationally.

Learners participating in community training programmes are offered the opportunity to complete QQI Major Awards at Levels 3, 4 and 5.

Training is provided across four different programme types:

Community Training Centres (CTC) provide integrated education, training and work experience to young people aged between 16 and 21 years who have left school with incomplete or no formal qualifications.

CTCs have been set up with the needs of the early school leaver and the young unemployed in mind with services delivered in a friendly and informal manner.

CTC provide a fresh opportunity for young persons to attain nationally recognised certificates at their own pace and with the assistance of friendly and supportive staff. Learners attend for a maximum period of two years and during this time, will participate in personal, social and vocational skills training leading to major awards on the National Framework of Qualifications.

CTCs form part of the national Youthreach programme, a nationally coordinated programme of second-chance education and training and a central part of the Government’s contribution to the achievement of a lifelong learning society.

The Local Training Initiative (LTI) programme is a training and work experience programme carried out in partnership with community and voluntary organisations.

LTI are targeted primarily to those aged between 16 and 35 years of age, with incomplete second level qualifications (or, no formal qualifications). LTI are designed to provide opportunities for unemployed persons who are unable to participate in other training interventions for personal, social or geographic reasons.

LTI enable local communities to carry out valuable and necessary projects of benefit to their communities, while at the same time training participants in areas related to the project work so that they can go on to gain employment or progress to further training.

The Local Training Initiative programme supports many organisations engaged in a wide variety of activities including genealogy, environment, heritage, tourism, arts, sports and leisure. Some projects are targeted at specific groups experiencing disadvantage such as homeless people, recovering addicts, prisoners and travellers.

Specialist Training Providers (STP) provides a range of flexible training courses and support services for people who need specialist support (job seekers, unemployed, people with an illness or disability).

STP training offers more intensive support to participants than would be available in non-specialist training provision.

All courses include work experience and offer nationally recognised qualifications including QQI, ICDL, and City and Guilds ensuring that students are ready to get a job or go on to further education.

Justice Workshops (JW) provide training, education, personal and social development for offenders and ex-offenders aged 17 and upwards.

JW offer nationally recognised certification in education and training. Services have a focus on rehabilitation and reintegration with the objective of helping people to return to employment.
